The Eruptors – Bad Time To Be Having A Good Time

These guys are a bit like a cartoon space-themed Motorhead, with an odd rockabilly moment chucked in, and this an album of fast loud songs loosely based on those ideas. It’s a hyperactive rocket ride through the minds of a very strange band, and your welcome to join in if you’ve got a strong stomach and can hold your drink.

Bad Time To Be Having A Good Time flies through in just over 20 minutes, drums crashing and guitars wailing, like they recorded it being chased by space cops round the moons of Alpherion 6, chucking up potential classics like the melodic One Minute Decision and the instrumental Battlestar Eruptica as they go. Sadly though, this dangerous recording method has left a few casualties – there are a few tracks on here that really make no sense, such as Theme From The Eruptors, much of which just comes across as white noise.

I was really chuffed when I got my grubby mitts on this one, having heard a few tracks and being genuinely excited to hear more. But I have to be honest, whilst this is a good record, it isn’t quite as good as I hoped. To my mind, it should’ve been an album of hard punchy fun, but I think somewhere along the line it got a bit… overcomplicated?

This is a completely mad album, and you should definitely hear it, but it is a bit too confused to be classed as a great album, even though The Eruptors are a great band as far as I’m concerned.
