Fury UK – Face Of Adversity
Avid Pure Rawkers will probably have noticed that we reviewed the demo of this (here) not long ago, so those lovely lads have given us a copy of the album too, sadly minus the awesome monster that is Death By Lightning.
This is more than made up for in the attitude-laden opener, Krueger, dark and war themed and with the first blistering solo of the album, guaranteed to knock down emo at ten paces (probably). The three tracks from the EP (Natural Disaster, Words You Say and Truth) sit very happily here, nestling between some more classic metal stompers, as well as some other surprisingly delicate gems, such as ballad Dream As One.
Whilst special mention should go out to Wicked Glass and The End for some exceptional guitar work (the former boasting a dual solo that Trivium would sell their mothers for), probably the most impressive here is closer The Lost Soul. Dark and haunting acoustics prevail, with just a few electric guitars brushed into the background, supporting a breathy and dark vocal, managing to be immensely heavy with hardly any instrumentation at all.
It really is amazing how much big rocking noise these three young lads kick out, and this album has also shown a more subtle side that I didn’t really expect. More please.
