Teenage Casket Company - Eat Your Heart Out EP
(Trashpit Records)

After their Punk Rock Bon Jovi campaign a few months ago, Nottingham’s Teenage Casket Company managed to cause a bit of a stir with their debut self-released album “Dial It Up”. This time round, they’ve managed to create a release that’s got not only excellent production but also a versatile EP with everything from a song to hold your lighters up to and kiss your woman (or man, depending on preference) to tracks that make you want to throw yourself into a mosh pit.

The EP kicks into the anthemic “Don’t Look At Me Like That” which is a bit of a stab at posers and fakers. It’s a good party song with some really good hooks in it and you can’t help but get carried away in it. Taking it down a notch, “Cocaine” kicks into some nice riffage and has some nice hooks in it. Its not one of my personal favourites but it’s a good lead in to their powerful cover of D-Generations “Hatred”.

“Thank you For Nothing” starts off with radio noise of the opening riffs and rips the carpet from under your feet once it kicks into the chorus. It’s a solid track with some good ‘quotable’ lyrics in there.

“Believe In You” is the odd ball of the EP. It’s a ballad. It’s a bit of a boy band tune, it doesn’t strike any real chords with me personally but its still a fair addition to the TCC songbook which one will have to admit is rather varied. Ending on the turbo charged “Eat Your Heart Out”, TCC break out their real punk rock influences. By far the strongest track on the EP, it can easily stand alone as a single.

The thing that I personally love about Teenage Casket Company the most is the exchanges between the two vocalists - Wilde and Delerict. They manage to be quite opposite ends of the scale (Wilde opting for the power pop/glam vocal style whilst Delerict focuses on his attention on the angrier hard rock/punk vocals) but create sounds that stick in your head and leave you humming it for quite some time after. Original and essential listening.
