In the Dangerzone

Interview with Andrew Griswold and Jamie Delerict by Nicola “Nix” Crichton

The three-piece - The DangerFuckingFields, as they are affectionately known have clocked up a lot of miles since 2002 - with a tremendous work ethic, playing over 750 shows ... whether it be the ‘toilet stages’ to legendary live music venues their CV is quite easy to gawp at. Sharing the stages with the likes of Misfits, Less Than Jake, Flogging Molly, Supersuckers, Zeke, Marky Ramone, Nashville Pussy, Life Of Agony, Warrior Soul, The Damned, The Exploited, Discharge, D.R.I., Poison Idea and Agnostic Front as well as more recently, supporting Stiff Little Fingers on their 30th Anniversary tour and currently on tour with the San Francisco punk bastards, the Dwarves.

I’d heard about The Dangerfields through reading a few other online reviews. They also had a strong connection with Pure Rawk favourites Teenage Casket Company - who Jamie Delerict is guitarist/vocalist for. The first time I’d seen The Dangerfields live was supporting Stiff Little Fingers at The Astoria, London. Needless to say, I was blown away. They have to be one of the very few bands I just digged from the first song. Noisy, fast, hard punky rock - and with a drumming vocalist - who it turned out, was a dab hand at playing the bass at the same time as drumming!

We were scheduled to have a chat then but due to tour insanity and having to be from one end of the country to the other the next day - we stuck a pin in it until next time they were in London. And they were, right at the start of their tour with The Dwarves. In a nice quiet pub, before what would be quite possibly one of their most important gigs, I caught up with Andy Griswold (vocals/drums) and Jamie Delerict (bass) to talk about how it began, touring, fighting and their plans for world domination.
