Eat Your Hearts Out

Jamie Delerict from Teenage Casket Company interview
They’ve been here, there and virtually everywhere this year and they’re winding down their gigs with a stop off in London to play Pure Rawk’s Unleashed and Loaded CD release party on the 5th December. Jamie Delerict (vocalist and guitarist) tells us what TCC has been upto, their brand spanking new video and the plans for the coming months.
Nix:
The Eat Your Heart Out EP - seems to have got some good reviews, what were the
main influences on that?
JD: Song by song, here you go:
1. Don't Look At Me Like That: Rob Wylde was house sitting
for me while I was on holiday a while back. He started listening to my SHAMPOO
albums and then wrote a song!
2. Cocaine: The TOP GUN soundtrack mainly.
3. Hatred: It's a D GENERATION cover. All members of D-Gen
love it by the way. I get a kick out of knowing that....
4. Thankyou For Nothing: Wylde doesn't realise it, but he wrote
his first pop-punk song right here. Kind of FENIX TX meets RAMONES or something.
5. Believe In You: An unashamedly 80's inspired hair-metal
ballad. It reminds me a little of SKID ROW personally. Makes the girls all wet
and the guys all sick!
6. Eat Your Heart Out: I like to think that it has the speed
and anger of AFI and the gritty swagger of SOCIAL DISTORTION.
Those are only my opinions. Kerrang compared us to BULLETS & OCTANE. Huh?!
N: You've got a video for
"Don't Look at Me Like That" coming out soon, tell us a little about
that?
JD: We're releasing it December 1st! Obviously without the huge financial
backing, it'll be hard to get on TV, but we'll give it a shot. It's got a really
cool storyline (based on real-life events), a live performance, hot dancing
girls (The Glitter Kittens) and some steamy sex scenes. I got to do a toilet
cubicle scene with a girl I met just ten minutes earlier that day. The whole
shoot was a lot of fun. We gave acting parts to some of our fans and friends
who've supported us from the start. Some got a little more than they bargained
for though....
N: What else have you been
up to since we last chatted for Pure Rawk?
JD: Working our fucking balls off and playing as many gigs as we possibly
could. I think we've done a second US tour, an Irish tour and been to Italy
since last we talked.
N:
You've had a bit of an eventful year with gigs and stuff, whats been the highlights
and the lowlights? Has it turned out the way you expected?
JD: High points have been many. Certainly the METAL SLUDGE US tour
was a fantastic experience. It's a cliche, but all the shit you go through to
get to the actual "performance" part of the day fades away once the
rock cometh on stage. Lowlights would certainly be halfway starving to death
on various tours and simply being constantly broke. Still, we chose this life
right?! We're not exactly where we want to be right now, so that means more
hard work in 2007...
N:
You're playing the Pure Rawk gig on the 5th of December ... whats to expect
from that with regards to you lads?
JD: You've seen us a bunch of times now Nix. You know what we're gonna do. We've played with and/or know all of the other bands on the bill and have full respect for them. Brothers in rock. But we're gonna try to do what I would hope the other groups are gonna try to do that night ... and that's STEAL THE FUCKIN' SHOW!
N: For anyone whos not seen
you before, how would you describe your live set?
JD: We ALWAYS give it our all. Just ask the five people that saw us
perform one time a few months back. Let's just say that we don't just stand
there and play our instruments shall we?
N: Favourite song you play?
JD: Mine's "Hatred". I like to pretend that it's 1996, I'm
signed to a major label, living in New York and a member of D GENERATION.
N: Bands you'd like to give
a shout out to?
JD: The three best bands in the UK besides us right now are THE DANGERFIELDS,
VAMPS & GYPSIES and PATCHWORK GRACE.
N: Whats next? What are the
plans for the next year?
JD: We're gonna play out our remaining bookings and then take a few
months off to re-group, get our heads together and write our next record. If
shows come along, we're gonna cherry-pick and not drive ourselves into the ground
like we have this year! There's a few UK tour options available which could
be interesting, a definite Italian tour coming and another American tour is
always only a phone call away ... Cheers 'n that.
